Award Sponsored by the National Council
for Social Studies. An national award for nonfiction books only.
Coretta Scott King
Award
Award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King and honors
Mrs. King "for her courage and determination to continue the work for
peace and brotherhood." Presented annually by ALA to a black author
and black illustrator whose works "encourage and promote" world
unity and peace and serve as an inspiration to young people.
Jane
Addams Book Award
Presented since 1953 by the Women's International League for Peace and
Freedom and the Jane Addams Peace Association to the children's book of
the preceding year that most effectively promotes the cause of peace,
social justice and world community.
Parent's Choice Award
Outstanding print and nonprint media selected by the Parents' Choice
Council.
Jefferson Cup Award Virginia Library
Association
Boston/Globe Hornbook Award
Given by Boston Globe & Horn Book Magazine. Awards given for text and
